Teletouch
Communications (TLL:AMEX) is a top twenty paging company which
provides services in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi,
Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas and Tennessee.
Teletouch
asked Marconi Pacific to define a strategy and detailed tactical
plan for growth. Teletouch also required help in day-to-day operational
management of the company. Marconi Pacific performed three major
activities:
-
Establishment of Operating and Finance Committees: These committees
were set up to improve management decision-making until the
senior management team was expanded in depth and breadth. These
committees also evaluated overall strategy and financial structure.
-
Detailed
channel profitability analysis: This analysis was aimed at understanding
the profitability and value of the customer, by channel, in
each of the major markets. This fundamental decomposition of
the business changed management's understanding of how the business
really worked and allowed the Operating and Finance Committees
to set priorities for allocating resources and for structuring
a detailed operational review.
-
Detailed
operational review: This review identified opportunities for
growth in each of the major markets, by channel, as well as
management improvements across the whole company. We worked
with the regional managers to develop detailed tactical plans;
new sales staff and other hires; revised internal operations;
new retail space; physical design changes to retail stores;
increased advertising; new pricing; new methods of payment,
revised inventory management processes and a revised compensation
system.
At
the end of the project, J. Richard Carlson, who was a member of
the Marconi Pacific team, was appointed President and Chief Operating
Officer of Teletouch (www.teletouch.com).
